On Sounding Like Yourself

Finding your unique voice, sounding like your true self, and speaking your truth doesn't just happen overnight. It's a practice - a journey. A journey I’ve been on myself for many years now.

“When I would report the news, my friends would often say:

‘That’s not you, is it? That’s not your voice. That doesn’t sound like you.’

And it didn’t bother me, until that day when I not only stopped sounding like myself,

I stopped feeling like myself.”

- Cara Jones

Finding our voice through small bold actions

You, me, we have these parts in us that are scared and much more comfortable playing roles than being ourselves. The only way to make these parts feel safe is by taking small bold actions. And little by little, we’re showing them that they get to relax, and we can let more of ourselves out.

Finding creative expression

I believe creative projects come to us not because we are the person who can realize the vision of them when they first arrive but because by continually saying yes to them, even as we cringe, we can become that person along the way.

I’ve been on a long ass journey when it comes to sounding like myself and I’m sharing part of my journey, my practice, with you in this first episode.

In the end, there’s only one way to find our true voice. Let’s start.

In this episode on sounding like yourself, I dive into:

  • My journey and learnings when it comes to finding my voice and sounding like myself;

  • How we are holding ourselves back from speaking our truth, and sounding like ourselves;

  • Finding creative expression through small bold actions;

  • The only way we can find our true voice;

  • And more.
